WHO WE ARE
The Cineclub Sassari was founded in 1951.
From the beginning, its core is characterized by the collaborations with other realities. Its members are interested in the analysis of cinematographic works and in education and training related to film and the audiovisual sector. Initially affiliated to FEDIC (Italian Cineclub Federation), the Cineclub Sassari participates, with the works of its members, in various Festivals organized in Montecatini and San Giovanni Valdarno. In the years to come, the Cineclub’s business is developed in various directions: production of short films and documentaries, studies and surveys on culture and cinema in Sardinia, participation in debates and conferences organized by other cultural associations. In the 1960s, the Cineclub collaborated with the Humanitarian Association which, on behalf of OECE (Organization for Economic Cooperation in Europe), organized a large cultural literacy program in Sardinia, that brought to the foundation, in 1966, of the “Cineteca Sarda”, of which the Cineclub Sassari is one of the founding members.
Today it continues to alternate short films production, promotion of film exhibitions and engagement in schools and, moreover, since 2006 the Cineclub organize the Sardinia Film Festival (SFF).
The current president of the Cineclub Sassari is Carlo Dessì.
WHAT WE DO
- THE SHORT FILMS AUDIOVISUAL LIBRARY
In the twelve years of Sardinia Film Festival, the Cineclub Sassari has collected, classified and archived about ten thousand works: from the latest amateur cinema to the works of debuting filmmakers, from the complete filmography of the world’s greatest directors to the investigative documentaries. This collection gave us the opportunity to create the “Short Mediateque”, a short (and not short) film archive, that keeps growing year after year. All the data sheets of the film in catalogue are already available on our website.
- CULTURAL EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS CONSULTANACY
Thanks to the experience gained over the years, Cineclub Sassari is able to support emerging associations, cultural operators or simply enthusiasts in the design and development of cultural exhibitions, from the planning phase to the set up of the event.
- INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL PROJECTS CONSULTANCY
Thanks to strong international bonds and a rich list of contacts built over time, the Cineclub Sassari is able to build strategic partnerships and develop European projects in response to specific calls from the major European programs (Creative Europe, Europe for Citizens, Erasmus+).
- CINEMA EVERYWHERE
With our media library (the “Short Mediateque”), with the Sardinia Film Festival and its itinerant character and with the contribution of municipal administrations, we are able to bring cinema anywhere: squares, courtyards, historic buildings to reopen. We are available to local administrators, associations and citizens who wish to organize a movie review.
- ORGANIZATION OF SCHOOL PROJECTS
Thanks to the availability of thousands of short films, we are able to offer thematic film screenings to young people, so they can reflect and understand what’s going on around them. We can also create workshops for the production of short audiovisual works. We are at the disposal of teachers and principals of all types and levels of schools to develop ad hoc projects.
